AI Companion Market Pulse - Traffic, Search and Link Data

Most "market" pages publish numbers you cannot check. This one publishes the underlying data as a downloadable file, with a source and a date on every figure, and states plainly what is not measurable.

All figures describe one reference platform — candy.ai, one of the largest and most widely tracked products in the category. It is a bellwether, not the whole market.

Traffic: three months of growth

34.49M2026-0642.39M2026-0745.59M2026-08Monthly visits

45.59M visits in August 2026, up 7.55% month-on-month, from 42.39M in July and 34.49M in June. The global rank sits inside the top 1,000 — a band usually occupied by mid-sized mainstream consumer apps. Source: Semrush public website page, August 2026 snapshot (last updated 2026-09-17).

Where that traffic does not come from

Organic search accounted for roughly 675K visits — about 1.5% of the total — and paid search was zero. The five largest organic keywords were all brand terms or misspellings of the brand name, every one of them ranking first.

The honest reading: this category grows on people being told a name, then searching it. It is not won with category keywords. If you are building in this space, that is the single most useful number on this page.

Metric Value Period
Backlinks 193.86M August 2026
Referring domains 8.65K August 2026
Links per referring domain ≈22,413 August 2026
Authority Score 52 August 2026

Twenty-two thousand links per domain is not editorial coverage — it is the signature of sitewide templates and link networks. We then checked what the links actually are:

86%14%Rel attribute of 96 links pointing at the reference platform■ nofollow / sponsored (83) ■ dofollow (13)Sampled from 36 source pages, 2026-09-28

86% of the 96 links we sampled were nofollow or sponsored — mostly affiliate redirects. In ranking terms that backlink number buys close to nothing; it is a measure of advertising reach, not authority. Source: HottyWiki link audit, 2026-09-28; method described below.

AI referral: the fastest-moving channel in the category

Share of attributed AI-platform traffic, latest month in snapshotcandy.ai53.34%candynetwork.ai4.44%candyai.ai0.06%ourdream.ai0.04%all other platforms42.12%

23M visits over six months came from AI platforms, and the reference platform took 53.34% of the attributed AI traffic in the category — more than half. The runner-up in that list shares its name, which suggests an owned secondary property rather than an independent winner.

This is the channel to watch. It is also why publishing checkable reference pages matters: answer engines cite documents, not advertisements.

Method, and what is not measurable

How the traffic and search figures were collected: read from the publicly published Semrush website page for the reference platform, August 2026 snapshot, page last updated 2026-09-17. Percentages labelled "calculated" are derived from two figures on that page.

How the link-type figures were collected: on 2026-09-28 we sampled 36 pages that link to the reference platform and parsed the rel attribute and redirect target of all 96 links pointing at it, classifying each as direct or redirect, dofollow or nofollow/sponsored, text or image. This is a sample, not a census of 193.86M links — treat it as an indicator of what kind of links dominate, not as a precise percentage for the whole profile.

What we cannot measure, and therefore do not publish:

Anyone quoting a market size to one decimal place for this category is guessing. We would rather tell you which numbers we have.
